Naas signs deal for 2018-19 with Texas

Former Red Knight to spend upcoming season in Lone Star state.

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced Wednesday the team has signed rookie forward Spencer Naas ('14) to an AHL contract for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Naas, 23, appeared in 12 games for the Cleveland Monsters last season after wrapping a four-year career at the University of Connecticut from 2014-2018. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward tallied seven points (4-3=7) in his 12 AHL games with Cleveland.

Over four seasons in Connecticut, the St. Louis Park, Minn. native appeared in 143 career games, recorded 77 points (49-28=77) and served as alternate captain for the Huskies in his final two seasons. Naas set a career high with 24 points in his senior season at Connecticut and finished tied for the team lead with 12 goals in 2017-18.

Naas enjoyed two seasons at Benilde-St. Margaret's, being named a finalist for the Mr. Hockey Award as a senior in 2014.

A co-captain as a senior, Naas put together back-to-back 30-goal seasons, finishing his two-year career with 65 goals and 125 points in 55 games as a Red Knight.

In a four-year varsity high school career, he finished tied for 43rd in Minnesota history with 217 career points and was 17th all-time with 118 career goals.
