Schweitzer headed to Slovakia with USA U17 Select Team

Twelve student-athletes who will be Red Knights in 2018-19 participated in the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance programs this off-season.

The group was led by Nate Schweitzer, who participated in the USA Hockey Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp and was chosen to represent the USA as part of the 2018 U.S. Under-17 Select Team that will compete, Aug. 15-19, at the Five Nations Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia.

Schweitzer has proved to be one of BSM's top blueliners, averaging over 20 minutes of ice time per game in his first two varsity seasons.

After scoring two goals and 10 points as a freshman, Schweitzer tallied five goals and 15 points this season, including a hat trick in a 7-2 win over Chanhassen.

He earned the teams General Sports Academic Award in both 2017 and 2018, was an honorable mention All-West Metro conference honoree in 2018 and will serve as an assistant captain for the Red Knights this season.

He was second in power-play goals (3) and power-play points (7) for the Red Knights in 2017-18 while leading the team's blueliners with his five goals and 66 shots on goal.

Schweitzer was joined at the national camp by newcomer Blake Messenberg, who played bantam hockey this past season.

Nate Schweitzer was named to the 2018 USA U17 Select Team to play in the Five Nations Cup.

Carson Limesand won 11 games of his 22 starts as a freshman.

Limesand, as a freshman, started 22 games in goal, posting an 11-9-2 record with a 2.67 goals against average and .893 save percentage en route to earning honorable mention all-conference honors.

Callahan played in all 26 varsity games as a freshman and logged nearly 19 minutes of ice time per game, scoring a goal and 12 points.

Jett Johnson and Charlie Bischel both were members of the Section 16 team as part of the HP 17 Program.

Johnson was chosen as a co-captain for 2018-19 after posting four goals and 11 points during his junior season. He led the team with a +9 rating, was tops among forwards and second overall with 37 blocked shots and was received the Jack Jablonski Most Determined Player Award.

Bischel saw action in 24 games as a sophomore, tallying a goal and six points.

Four additional newcomers participated in Minnesota Hockey High Performance Summer Camps -- Ryan Gearan and Tristan Sarsland, in the HP 14 camp, and Adam Marshall and Brady Yakesha in the HP 15 camp.

Also participating at the HP 15 camp was Peter Keese, who saw action in all 26 varsity games in 2017-18, playing both defense and center.

Four other Red Knights took part in the HP 16 program. Carson Limesand made it to the Final 54 while Jonah Mortenson and James Callahan both participated as part of the Section 6 team, as did incoming sophomore Jackson Bisson.
