First Report

Sophomore Joe Miller had a goal and two assists, and linemate Tristan Broz, also a sophomore, had a goal and an assist as Blake beat Greenway 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Blake Ice Arena.

Broz scored 8 seconds into the third period on a 2-on-1 rush with Miller, putting the Bears (3-2-0) ahead 3-1. Greenway (2-5-0) had dominated the second period, outshooting Blake 10-5, but the early goal by Broz snuffed out much of that momentum.

Gavin Best and Anderson Blum also scored in the third for Blake, which led by as much as 5-1.

Bears goaltender Aksel Reid faced just 20 shots, but several of his saves were spectacular.

Greenway opened the scoring on a goal by Nikolai Rajala just more than 2 minutes into the opening period. His bad-angle shot from the left corner hit a Blake defenseman’s skate and caromed into the net off the right post.

The Bears, in their second season opting up to play at the Class 2A level, got first period goals from Jack Sabre and Miller.

Ty Donahue scored a power-play goal for the Raiders late in the third period. Greenway is ranked No. 7 in the Class 1A state coaches' poll and, before the season, figured to challenge state tournament fixture Hermantown as the top team in Class 1A, Section 7. The loss was Greenway’s fifth straight and second in as many nights to a metro area private school. Holy Family Catholic beat the Raiders 7-2 on Friday night.

Greenway goaltender Tyler Penney made 20 saves before an injury knocked him out of the game late in the third period. Logan Wright made two saves in relief.
