First Report

Mike Koster’s power-play goal with 2 minutes, 44 seconds remaining boosted unranked Chaska past previously undefeated Edina, ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A state coaches' poll, 4-3 on Saturday in the final round of the Hockey for Life Classic at the Dakotah! Ice Center in Prior Lake.

Koster’s goal came on a 5-on-3 advantage for the Hawks (7-5-0), who opened the tournament with a 6-3 win over No. 6-2A Eden Prairie on Thursday and an 8-0 win over Prior Lake on Friday.

Chaska rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Edina (9-1-1), which entered the afternoon as one of just four remaining unbeaten Class 2A teams in the state.

Koster, a senior defenseman who had a hat trick in the win over Prior Lake, scored after taking a feed from Rhett Pitlick and firing high from close range to the right of Edina goaltender Louden Hogg.

Pitlick, a junior forward who, like Koster, has committed to play at the University of Minnesota, scored twice. He had the lone goal of the second period and pulled the Hawks to within 4-3 when he scored with 7:25 left in the third.

Senior Jett Jungels scored twice for the Hornets, and Peter Colby had the other Edina goal. Colby’s goal and Jungels’ first came on breakaways.

Hogg, a sophomore, finished with nine saves while Chaska senior Justin Bach had 16.
