We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.

Other games to keep an eye on

Greenway vs. Bemidji, Saturday, Jan. 19, 4:30 p.m. Despite a difficult schedule, Greenway (6-11, 3-0) remains tied for the lead in the Iron Range Conference standings and has wins over Alexandria, Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl and Grand Rapids. Bemidji (6-9-1, 2-5) has beaten Warroad and tied St. Michael-Albertville. It hosts Hockey Day Minnesota for the first time and gets a home outdoor game against a formidable opponent.

Waconia vs. Orono, Friday, Jan. 18, 7:30 p.m. There’s still conference title hopes for plenty of teams in a competitive Wright County Conference. Orono (9-5, 3-1) doesn’t have a gaudy record or statistics, but has the coaches’ respect with a No. 6 ranking in Class 1A. Waconia (7-5-2, 1-3) has been up and down, and has just one goal in recent games against Mound-Westonka and Holy Family Catholic — but still averages 4.00 goals per game.

St. Michael-Albertville vs. Monticello, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 7 p.m. St. Michael-Albertville (8-3-3, 5-2) holds the top spot in the Mississippi 8 Conference standings and is one of four teams in the state with multiple players posting 34 or more points (Luc Laylin, 37; Adam Flammang, 36). Monticello’s Troy Dahlheimer (18-16-34) and the Moose (10-4-1, 3-3) are coming off a 3-2 win over Class 1A, Section 5 leader North Branch.

Lake of the Woods vs. Red Lake Falls, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 7 p.m. The Northwest Conference has some high-powered offenses, including Red Lake Falls, which averages 4.27 goals per game thanks to Zak Kennet (24 goals is fifth in the state). Red Lakes Falls (3-8, 1-3) and Lake of the Woods (5-10, 1-3) allow more than 4.80 goals per game, so it should be a high-scoring matchup.
