Rosemount has a shot at a South Suburban Conference title, but the Irish are in a tight race atop the standings and a pay-back victory over Prior Lake on Saturday would help create some separation. Photo by Drew Herron, SportsEngine
We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.
Park of Cottage Grove vs. Stillwater, Thursday, Jan. 24, 7:30 p.m. Stillwater's offense has come back to earth, resulting in the Ponies (8-8-0, 6-3-0) losing seven of their last eight games. Park of Cottage Grove (8-9-1, 4-5) is 4-3 in 2019 and seems to be moving in a positive direction. This duel offers Stillwater (four or more goals in two of its last three, but not more than three in the eight prior) a chance to get the scoring back on track, as the Wolfpack allow 3.88 goals per game.
Breck vs. Providence Academy, Thursday, Jan. 24, 7 p.m. Breck (8-9, 3-2) is in line to earn a home game in the Class 1A, Section 2 playoffs after winning three of its last four games. Providence Academy (6-11, 2-1) could easily play spoiler, both in Independent Metro Athletic Conference and section play, with and offense boasting two of the state's top seven scorers: Zachary Geisler (25-21-43) and Grant Ellington (14-32-42).
