We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.
Dodge County vs. Legacy Christian, 6:45 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5. Dodge County (4-15) has won its last three games but offers probably the last, best chance for Legacy Christian (0-20), the only winless team in the state, to get its first victory before season's end. The Lions were close in a 3-2 overtime loss to La Crescent-Hokah on Jan. 26. Both teams allow more than 4.89 goals per game, so there should be scoring, even with the weak offenses (1.55 goals per game for Legacy Christian and 2.26 for Dodge County).
East Grand Forks vs. Warroad, 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5. Warroad (11-9-2, 2-6-1) probably can’t bump itself up any higher in its conference standings or section seeding, but wants to enter the postseason coming off a good performance against Class 1A, Section 8 leader East Grand Forks. It’s not the big rivalry for the Warriors — they tied Roseau 2-2 on Jan. 29 — but Warroad would like to make up for a 2-1 loss to East Grand Forks (16-5, 6-2) on Dec. 20, where it gave up the game-winner with under four minutes to play.
