Red Knights name captains for 2016-17

BSM picks trio to lead team this season.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- With tryouts completed, Benilde-St. Margaret's head coach Ken Pauly has announced the Red Knights' captains for 2016-17.

The trio includes seniors Max Jablonski, Peter Moran and Nick Sims.

Jablonski, for whom the 2016-17 season will mark his first varsity campaign, played in all 50 junior varsity games over the last two seasons.

After scoring just one goal and four points as a sophomore, he turned in a eight-goal, 22-point performance last season.

"Max Jablonski has really paid the price to be on this team," Pauly said. "His off-ice work ethic since his 10th-grade year has been nothing short of extraordinary

"His leadership skills in organizing off-season skating and dryland sessions, and assisting our athletic department made him a clear choice as one of this team's captains."

Moran was chosen by his teammates last spring following the team's 25-1-1 season.

In his first varisty season, Moran got his Red Knight varsity career started off in style by scoring a pair of goals and three points in a season-opening 6-1 win at St. Michael-Albertville, Nov. 24.

Primarily used in a checking role as the center of BSM's third line, Moran nevertheless chipped in with seven goals, three of which were the games' first goal, along with two game winners, and 12 points.

Sims will be the lone player on this season's varsity squad with two years of Red Knight varsity experience under his belt.

He notched a goal and an assist in 17 games as a sophomore before scoring four goals and 15 points in 25 games last season. Following the season, Sims competed in the Minnesota HP 18 Festival.

"Nick Sims emerged as a key player for our team last year," Pauly said. "Our guys are naturally looking for him to provide on-ice leadership and to set an example as one one team's key players.

"The support he received as captain clearly shows that his teammates respect more than just his playing ability."

BSM opens it 2016-17 campaign at home, Tues., Nov. 29, when it hosts St. Michael-Albertville.
